Kiku 'Palak' Sharda's 'Faroj Khan' act has been a part of his comic repertoire for some years now. It acquired a new flavour when he did the act with Farah Khan on Comedy Nights With Kapil during the promotion of Happy New Year.

It's widely known that there's a cold war on between Saroj Khan and Farah Khan for years now. But to actually have someone mimic the temperamental Saroj in front of Farah is the same as fuelling the feud even more.

And that should have been that. But the impersonation didn't stop there. Kuku even makes a cameo in Farah's Happy New Year as Faroj Khan, dancing exactly like Saroj Khan does, to the tune of Dil Yeh Bechain Ve from Taal, which was originally choreographed by Saroj.

And she's deeply upset about being made fun of. Ask Kiku about the character and he goes into denial mode. "If you are asking me this on record, then no, that is not Saroj Khan. I am only playing a dance teacher, no one in particular. And if she resembles anyone that we know, it's just coincidence."

Will he say that about his HNY cameo, too? Where that resemblance is more pronounced? Kiku defends himself, "I repeat, it is not anyone in particular. It's just a small cameo. Even Prabhudheva has done a brief cameo in HNY. Farah offered me the role when she came on Comedy Nights With Kapil, a year back. She told me it was small role. I had seen a group of A-lister stars making fleeting appearances in Farah's Om Shanti Om, so I agreed. We have never said the dance teacher was anyone from real life. In fact, we haven't even said that she is 'Faroj Khan', the character I've been playing on stage for many years. Why didn't anyone object to it earlier?"

Kiku is ecstatic at the response his brief role has garnered, but avers, "I don't want my happiness to be marred by any controversy. Sarojji is an institution. We would never disrespect her."
