She came, she saw and she ruled our hearts with strong performances and an equally strong personality. Bollywood's ruling princess Deepika Padukone's journey is a fairy-tale of its own. From ruling the ramp to hitting the 70 mm screen, this lass has proven that talent, hard-work and honesty do pay off in Bollywood.
Her debut film was the Kannada film Aishwarya where she played the titular role and impressed everyone with those drop-dead gorgeous looks.
From ruling the ramp as a Supermodel to being hand-picked by the Badshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan to play dual roles in the 2007 blockbuster Om Shanti Om, she made optimum usage of all the opportunities and shone as Sandy and Shantipriya. A new superstar was born the day OSO released in 2007 and there was no looking back for this stunner.
Following her grand debut, she signed a slew of films with diverse roles while her relationship with Ranbir Kapoor gained credence in the media. Her films like Bachna ae Haseeno, Love Aaj Kal, Housefull and Desi Boyz did well, while others failed to set the box office on fire.
Her performances in films like Kartik calling Kartik, Lafangey Parindey and Aarakshan were appreciated by critics and she continued improving par excellence with every frame. Sometimes the critics would write that she outshone her co-stars in terms of performance and people were loving this new Deepika.
With 2012, came a fresh lease of life for this star with Cocktail running to packed houses and Veronica striking a cord with the audiences.
Having shared screen space with big names like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan and worked with Ashustosh Gowariker, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and others, Deepika has come a long way in terms of professionalism, films and outlook towards personal relationships.
Her best performances till date have been her roles in Goliyon ki Rasleela: Ram-Leela as the Gujarati belle Leela, Meenamma in Chennai Express, Veronica in Cocktail and Naina Talwar in Yeh Jawani Hain Deewani.
Her future projects include Happy New Year, cross-over film Finding Fanny Fernandes, Window-Seat (working title) and some others in the pipe-line for sure.
Being a sports person, Deepika found the sportsmanship spirit quite handy in Bollywood, as she juggled films and competition with ease. She wasn't here to make enemies but friends.
Her closest pals as per her own admission are Shahana Goswami, Homi Adjania and Dinesh Vijan while her bonding with Priyanka Chopra needs no mention as both will appear on Koffee with Karan on Sunday which coincides with Deepika's birthday. Quite a treat we say!
What makes Deepika's journey memorable is that detractors wrote negative stuff, dismissed her as yet another pretty face and she had the courage to take all the criticism and make good out of it. In the last season of Koffee with Karan, she appeared bitter over her break-up and took jibes which created stories for tabloids.
Come this season and Deepika promises to keep it simple and boring for the camera. In an interview she mentioned that she purportedly went simplistic-minus-controversy for the camera to prevent a return of last season's controversies.
Even fashion pundits love Deepika's sense of style to pull of almost anything with grace and panache without appearing tacky. The girl knows how to play it risque and stand out amongst other beauties in Bollywood.
Recently when a television network awarded her Indian of the year award, she broke down on stage while receiving the award from her father ace badminton player Prakash Padukone. She thanked all her fans, the industry and directors while recollecting tales of her difficult days.
The hashtags #HappyBirthdayDeepikaPadukone, #KoffeWithDeepika have been trending throughout the day with fans wishing her well and praising the talented lass.
