It was meant to be all live, all real, all hundred percent authentic. But the first season of the new reality music show Rising Star on Colors ended on Sunday night on a note of bewildering whimper when the popular choice Maithili Thakur’s sure-shot victory was suddenly upturned to make her closest rival Bannet Dosanjh the winner.

The swing was so swift and sudden that the the judges, at least two of them - Shankar Mahadevan and Monali Thakur - were left open-mouthed. And now, ardent supporters of Maithili including people from the show are crying foul.

A core member of the show’s team who doesn’t wish to be identified for obvious reasons says, “We don’t know what happened. The judges were in a state of shock. Maithili was clearly heading for a win when the live voting suddenly swung in Bannet’s favour. We don’t know why or how. But he won.”

The girl’s shocked father is too scared to say anything. But family members clearly hint at foul play. Incidentally, the winner Bannet Dosanjh is from one of the judge’s Diljit Dosanjh’s village - a fact that was mentioned more than once during the grand finale.
