EXCLUSIVE: No 'Kapoor And Sons' sequel being planned, confirms director Shakun Batra

Last March, Kapoor And Sons released and it went on to rake in huge moolah as well as critical acclaim. The film turned out to be one of the best human dramas made in 2016 and now, there were strong reports that a sequel is being planned.

A leading daily today reported that Kapoor And Sons 2 is in the pipeline. But director Shakun Batra has rubbished the news. He said, "No, I don't have any idea for the Kapoor And Sons sequel. Like everyone else, even I am just getting to know of the development from the stories doing the rounds. But I don't think there can be a sequel to Kapoor And Sons at all."

Shakun also added that he's 'currently working on a different idea'. The director is now in Goa, scripting his next. "I can't divulge details about my next right now. But yes, it's different from what the reports have been claiming. It's not a rom-com. It's in a different space, a very different world for me. I haven't even finished the first draft so I don't know whether there will be a happy ending or not. So I will talk about it once I finish scripting."

Talks about him teaming up with Sidharth and Alia again are also 'untrue', reveals Batra. "It's true that I share a sweet bond with Sidharth, Alia or Fawad. And it's true that they will always be my first choices when I plan a film. I will definitely think of Sidharth if I think he suits the part. But it has not reached that point yet. And I am old school. I don't believe in approaching an actor without a script."
