In December 2018, it came to light that Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu will be venturing into the digital space with a web series that he will be producing. While not much was known about the project so far, we have managed to get some details of the venture that is presently in pre-production.
We have learnt that the Meeku Meere Maku Meme director Hussain Sha Kiran, well-known for writing the story of Jr NTR and Sukumar’s hit flick Nannaku Prematho, will be helming the series that will be a thriller in the detective genre.
A reliable source tells us that the series will be titled Charlie and that it will pan out for three seasons of eight episodes, each of one hour duration. “A total of 24 episodes have been conceived and a strategical division will be done season wise. Charlie is the eponymous lead character of the series and will be seen as a detective who solves crimes with a team of colleagues. The idea is to make it on par with the detective stories that are popular worldwide, except this will be a new story!” reveals the source.
Meanwhile, discussions are on to make the series in Hindi to give it a pan-India appeal. Pre-production has been on for a while and the casting process is on as well. “An assistant of well-known DOP Prasad Murella, Nivas is going to handle the camera for this series and Baahubali music producer M.M. Keeravani’s son Kaala Bhairava is likely to give its music. Talks are on,” adds the source.
Hussain and his team apparently did a great deal of research in the process and even met Naxalites and terrorists who are in the jails of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. A part of the film will be shot at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad while another set is being erected close to the city’s airport. The project is being handled by the actor’s wife, ex-Miss India Namrata Shirodkar and will be a joint production of Mahesh’s MB Entertainment and Jio.
