The first teaser of Netflix's much-awaited fantasy film Okja has arrived. Directed by Bong Joon-Ho of Snowpiercer, the film follows the epic journey of Mija, a young girl who must risk everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend - a massive animal named ‘Okja’.

Joon Ho has teamed up with his Snowpiercer star Tilda Swinton for Netflix's first big investment, $50 million in the Asian movie market. South Korean actress Seohyun An is playing the lead. The film also stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, and Lily Collins.

Other stars include Devon Bostick of The 100, Byun Heebong of The Host, Shirley Henderson of Anna Karenina, Daniel Henshall of The Babadook, Yoon Je Moon of Mother, Choi Wooshik of Set Me Free, and Steven Yeun of The Walking Dead.

In the trailer, a crisply dressed, platinum blond Swinton appears before the press to announce, "I took nature and science, and synthesised." From the looks of it, it appears that Swinton's character may be behind the creation of Okja. Later in the teaser, Mija calls out for Okja in the woods and we get the first glimpse of a creature with big brown eyes, and skin like an elephant.

Erik-Jan de Boer who won an Oscar for his work on visual effects of Life of Pi is supervising the same department for Okja.

The movie is produced by Bong Jonn Ho and Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner's Plan B in association with Lewis Pictures and Kate Street Picture.

Okja will be available for streaming on Netflix in June. It will also get a limited theatrical release in the US.
