Emma Watson voted top 'feminist celebrity' of 2014

Emma Watson has claimed the title of top feminist for the year 2014.

In a Ms. Foundation for Women online poll conducted in partnership with Cosmopolitan.com, the 24-year-old British star got most votes, beating actress Laverne Cox, who came second, E! Online reported.

The Top 10 2014 feminists, based on the poll are:

1. Emma Watson
2. Laverne Cox
3. Rachel Maddow
4. Beyonce
5. Cher
6. Amy Poehler
7. Tina Fey
8. Meryl Streep
9. Mindy Kaling
10. Ann Curry

Watson had delivered a powerful speech at the UN as Women's Goodwill Ambassador back in September had touched people's heart, when she helped launch the HeForShe gender equality campaign.

Ms. Foundation President and CEO Teresa Younger issued a statement, saying that "though they celebrate all feminists every day, they were giving a hat tip to celebrities who had been helping to promote women's equality, and every celebrity on the list had either embraced the term 'feminist,' spoken out for women's equal rights, or battled against sexist oppression."
