Alan Rickman's Harry Potter cast-mates have been paying tribute to the actor, who played Professor Snape, on social media, but it looks like some fans have taken offence at a particular tweet from Emma Watson.

The 25-year-old actress' tweet was an image of Rickman with a quote from the late actor imposed over it. The quote read, "There is nothing wrong with a man being a feminist, I think it is to our mutual advantage."

Despite the sentiment behind the message, some Twitter users have criticised Watson, famous for playing Hermione Granger in the Potter films, for pushing her own feminist agenda. Watson is an advocate of the HeForShe campaign and a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador.

Tweets like, "Emma, you are a repugnant human being using his death to push your agenda. Go f**k yourself, t**t," have flooded the micro-blogging site.

However, Watson's tweet was just one of several tributes she made about Rickman's passing.

This is not the first time, Watson has faced backlash online. Post her well-received speech on gender equality at the UN, a 4chan user threatened to leak nudes of the actress online.
