Filmmakers are always on the lookout for fresh pairings to bring in novelty, but time and again they fall back on tried-and-tested jodis who have connected big time with the audience. Some pairs like Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are considered magical and the two have done eight movies together. No other pair in recent times has come close to them, but you will see some jodis reuniting for their upcoming films in the next two years. Here’s the lowdown...

Sidharth Malhotra-Alia Bhatt

Returning with: Aashiqui 3

A regular love story on screen has eluded this real-life couple. Sid had to vie for Alia’s affection and attention with Varun Dhawan in Student Of The Year before he whisked her away, at the end of the film. Their next outing, Kapoor & Sons, saw Alia initially having the hots for Fawad Khan, with Sid almost getting friendzoned before she falls for him. That could  change with Aashiqui 3, which sees Sid-Alia being paired a third time. They just need an intense love story to bring all that fire on screen.

In real life: The lovebirds have often been spotted holidaying together abroad and share great chemistry off-screen as well — just check out this sizzling beach picture they  shot for a magazine cover shoot!

Ranveer Singh - Deepika Padukone

Returning with: Padmavati

She was Leela to his Ram and Mastani to his Bajirao. Ranveer and Deepika are perhaps an exception to the unwritten rule that real-life partners have zero chemistry on screen.  While in Goliyon Ki Raasleela - Ram-Leela, Ranveer and Deepika shared a raw, sensuous chemistry, in Bajirao-Mastani, they sizzled as lovers. Now the two are coming back together for Padmavati which has Ranveer as the amorous Sultan smitten by a beautiful queen (Deepika). It’s the story of one-sided love, so it will be interesting to see how the two play this one!

In real life: The two are premis off screen, too, and have successfully translated their ardent love for each other on screen.

SRK-Anushka Sharma

Returning with: The Ring

Each time they have come together, they have delivered a hit. Anushka made her debut opposite Shah Rukh in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and the two shared a cute chemistry. But in their next outing, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, the sparks between them were red-hot. Now, in their third outing directed by Imtiaz Ali, who is known for his hatke love stories, one can expect their equation to only go a notch higher.

In real life: The two have been posting fun pictures from Prague and Amsterdam where they are shooting and the comfort level between them is evident.

Shraddha Kapoor-Aditya Roy Kapur

Returning with: OK Jaanu

Their only film together so far — Aashiqui 2 — didn’t end well for their characters, but their passionate, intense love story became a talking point. They’ve now been paired in OK Jaanu, the remake of Mani Ratnam’s Tamil hit, OK Kanmani. The film requires the lead pair to share a crackling chemistry and if the pics coming in from the sets are anything to go by, they’ve ticked off that box perfectly.

In real life: They were said to be dating each other at one point though neither confirmed it. In any case, it helped in keeping their romance alive.

Ranbir Kapoor-Anushka Sharma

Returning with: Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Bombay Velvet, which brought Ranbir and Anuskha together, flopped. However, the chemistry was scorching enough to convince that film’s villain, Karan Johar, to cast them in his next directorial, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. He had said in an interview, “When I worked with Ranbir and Anushka in Bombay Velvet, I knew their pairing and undeniable chemistry warranted another film and I am extremely excited to direct them. This film will tap into another unusual part of their chemistry.”

In real life:  Indeed, the intense passion between the two is palpable even in the trailer. Can’t wait for this one.

Shah Rukh Khan - Katrina Kaif

Returning with: Bandhua

In Jab Tak Hai Jaan, he kissed Katrina, not once, but thrice The two shared an easy, romantic vibe in this Yash Chopra directorial, so much so that, it didn’t feel as if the two had been paired for the first time. Now, the two are teaming up again for Aanand L Rai’s Bandhua in which SRK plays a dwarf. Should be interesting to see the tall Kat and midget SRK romancing each other.

In real life: She is the only heroine SRK has smooched in his 25-year-old career!

Sushant Singh Rajput - Parineeti Chopra

Returning with: Takadum

They turned up the heat with their searing chemistry in their first film together, Shuddh Desi Romance, with some 27 smooches. Now, the two are reuniting for their next outing, Takadum. In an interview, Pari had said that she loves working with Sushant. “We had so much give-and-take as actors when we did Shuddh Desi Romance together. It will be amazing to work with him again. Takadum is an intense film, which will require the two lead actors to have that chemistry and comfort level that I have with Sushant.” Let’s wait and watch.

In real life: During the making of SDR, there were rumours of the two getting close to each other. However, both of them dismissed it.

Varun Dhawan - Alia Bhatt

Returning in: Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya

These two Students make a delightful pair. They were adorable together in their debut film Student Of The Year and in their next, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya, the two had the audience eating out of their hands with their flirty and intense romance. Now, Varun and Alia have paired up for the third time for Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya. What’s more there is talk of the two coming together again for Karan Johar’s Shiddat. Clearly, this pair rocks.

In real life: Looking at the pictures the two have been posting from the sets on the social media, they seem to be having a ball shooting.
