Dwayne Johnson has been roped in by DC comics to play Black Adam in their upcoming movie Shazam

The Rock recently took to his Twitter account and confirmed the news that he would play Black Adam, who in the comics was originally a villain before becoming more of an antihero in recent years, the Verge reported.

According to Variety, Darren Lemke, writer and director of Jack the Giant Slayer would be writing the script. However, there is still no news on who would play the lead role Shazam himself.

In a profile of the character, The Hollywood Reporter writes, "Black Adam was originally a predecessor of Captain Marvel’s, having been given identical powers by the wizard Shazam during Ancient Egyptian times only to become corrupted by them"

Over the last few months, there was much speculation over  whether Johnson would play the title character of Shazam. With the his announcement of playing the character Black Adam, one wonders who will actually play Shazam now.
