Essaying a real-life character in a biopic is a tougher job than doing ordinary character roles, says National award winning director-turned actor VK Prakash.

Prakash, known for his innovative style of film making and narration, has essayed the protagonist in Vidooshakan (The Enlightened), a biopic on eminent Malayalam writer Sanjayan, which will be premiered in the ongoing 19th International Film Festival of Kerala here.

"Acting itself is a tough job for me compared to my routine job of film making. In Vidooshakan,it was tougher as it was about Sanjayan who laid such a great mark in the minds of Malayalees through his powerful writing," Prakash told PTI.

Prakash said in-depth reading and some background preparations were necessary to give perfection for biopic characters.

"My view is that we should do some background work before doing such a character. We should also collect and read as much literature as possible on that character. Then only can we do at least some justification to such a role," he said.

Deep reading about the real life character would help to essay the character in-depth, Prakash, who bagged the National and State awards for his first film Punaradhivasam, said.
A product of School of Drama, Prakash, popularly known as VKP among his admirers, had already essayed roles in a handful of dramas and two films.

"Though I have a theatre background, I am a bit tensed about the upcoming movie. I hope it will be received well. But I am more comfortable with filmmaking than acting. So I will do only selected roles in future also," he said.

He said he would miss the premiere of the movie in IFFK as he us busy with the shooting of his upcoming film in which young Asif Ali plays the hero.

Vidooshakan , directed by TK Santhosh, revolves around the last days of Malayalam satirist M R Nair who wrote under the pseudo name of Sanjayan and passed away in 1944.
The movie will be screened in the 'Malayalam Cinema Today' package of the week-long festival, which began here yesterday.
