Govinda’s forthcoming film, Aa Gaya Hero, will see him recreating his laugh-a-minute formula, besides his typical dance moves. The actor, who plays a cop in the comedy thriller, is returning as a hero on screen after a long time with the film, “I have written the film myself and I have given it my own personal touch. It has been conceptualised by me and is very close to my heart,” he recently revealed.

Chi Chi was recently seen on the television show, Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai, promoting his home production. He rued the fact that the entertainment value and his brand of humour was missing from the scene today, “Frankly, that kind of music, the song-and- dance do not exist today. Moreover, the comedy we see in films today is incomparable to the kind of comedy we did and it is impossible for the makers of today to replicate. That’s because we do not have talented writer-directors like Rumi Jaffrey around, who packed every scene with tons of entertainment. Today, everything is done so matter-of-factly,” Govinda revealed. It may be recalled that Govinda and Rumi Jaffrey had worked together in several successful movies, most notable among them being Partner, Jodi No 1, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Saajan Chale Sasural and Coolie No 1.

The actor also said that television had taken over comedy to a great extent, “I think it is the medium of television that excels in comedy these days. They have some power-packed comedies that are really entertaining,” he saidd.

On being asked why he was lying low after the release of his last two films, Kill Dil and Happy Ending, Govinda revealed, “I did not cut down on work, but I didn’t get the kind of films that I would have liked to do. I explored every possible role on screen including a negative role. Now after a long time, I am enjoying the experience of playing a hero once again,” he said.

He also denied that he was approached for the sequel to Partner, as was rumoured, “I am not even aware of it and I haven’t been approached for it. Right now, my home production is my only priority. I am doing it all by myself and I am ensuring that it is entertaining,” he said.
