Writer Sarath Chandra had earlier filed a complaint with the Telugu Film Writers Association stating that director Koratala Siva had plagiarised his work. According to him, the director had written Srimanthudu based on his novel Chachentha Prema.

Sarath Chandra has also gone to court with this and filed a case against the director. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the director has now denied the allegations. He told the daily that he respects other writers as he too was a writer and also has faith in the legal system. The movie was released and the novel was also available in the market, he said.

The director has stated that that the writers association was in favour of him after having gone through the case completely. Parchuri Gopala Krishna who is part of the writers association did not want to talk about the issue as it was in court. The daily quoted him as saying, "The issue is sub judice as the writer approached the courts. So I can't tell anything about it as it will be contempt of court. If the court asks us about it, we will give our opinion."

The court will now have to decide whether there is any merit in Sarath Chandra's accusation.
