The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has approved Bollywood actor Dino Morea’s proposal for installing workout stations in different parts of the city.
Morea approached the BMC on March 5 this year, seeking permission to install workout stations, especially in places like joggers’ parks and promenades such as Marine Drive, Bandra Reclamation and Carter Road.
The workout stations will promote the habit of exercising and help citizens in exercises such as chin ups, pull ups, shoulder dips, parallel bar dips, push ups, squats, tricep dips, stretching using ladder bars, etc.
Civic chief Sitaram Kunte has given his nod to allow installation of the workout stations at 20 places. Kunte has ordered six ward offices — D (Girgaum, Tardeo, Walkeshwar), G-North (Dadar, Mahim), F-North (Matunga, Five Gardens) G-South (Worli), H-West (Bandra, Khar), K-West (Andheri, Juhu) to identify spaces to set up the equipment.
Kunte was unavailable for comment, but a senior civic official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “The civic chief has asked us to look for open spaces with proper wind flow where the equipment can be installed. If the stations receive good public response, only then will we allow them to increase the number of equipment.”
Morea, through his venture DM Fitness, had initially proposed to install the equipment at 100 different locations in the city.
The actor will not be allowed to carry out promotional activities at fitness stations, said additional municipal commissioner (city) Mohan Adtani. “Also, we have not permitted installation of the equipment at Marine Drive,” he said when queried about the actor seeking space at the promenade for the purpose.
Morea could not be reached for a response.
