With an interesting mix of films, SRK who turns 50 today will have an exciting one year ahead. Here’s how!
Shah Rukh Khan’s always managed to blend in the genres well in his career. Possibly the only debutant of his generation who decided to take a leap of faith and do a negative character right in the beginning of his career, not fearing getting typecast, SRK has always worked to break the mould.
And he’s always done what others could not even imagine doing. Over 25 years in the business and still one of the reigning superstars of this day and age, Shah Rukh Khan’s zeal and intentions towards his work hasn’t changed. And his passion for his craft, unhindered.
While he’s tried doing a Chak De! India or a My Name is Khan or even a Swades at periodic intervals, audiences have lauded him for his incredible acting prowess. But SRK hasn’t forgotten how after every well crafted film he chose, people used to condition things in a certain fashion and rather criticise him. When he did a Chak De! India, people felt he’s going through a mid-life crisis. At a time when Salman was walking away to the bank with the moolah that his films earned, SRK was busy doing a MNIK which not only preached out a message of secularism but also was an ode to communal harmony and brotherhood on a global sphere.

Cut to 2013 and he made Chennai Express. His biggest film till date. In terms of mere box office numbers. He came, he tried the genre everyone was latching up, and he conquered it too. Soon, CE became the highest grosser of all times and what followed was another 200 crore plus Happy New Year. These did help prove SRK prove a point. That he’s still not finished yet, as many others would want him to be. At 50, SRK is possibly making the most interesting choices ever. And boy, he’s balancing the genres terrifically well. Why we say so? SRK who has Dilwale coming up this year has a series of films lined up back-to-back, which are starkly different from each other in content, genre and treatment. But the heart is still at the same place. Our SRK in Dilwale won’t be diametrically opposite to our SRK from a Fan or Raees. And that’s the magic of the phenomenon that we call Shah Rukh!
Dilwale, being Rohit Shetty’s staple mad-cap family entertainer, has an additional ensemble which spells magic. With Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in tow, SRK is expected to gatecrash into the box office and bring in a tornado at the ticket counters this Christmas.

Then comes Fan. A story of a superstar and his sabse bada Fan. A special film, which possibly no one could have done better than SRK himself has him playing both the roles- that of a superstar and the doppelganger. The actor, who’s happy and excited to have lived the life of a fan considers this as one of his most special films till date. More so because SRK’s always the self confessed ‘common man’s superstar’. And this movie is not just about the enigma of the superstar that he is in real life but also of the passion and dedication of a true fan for his favourite star! A winner, already!
Finally, you have Rahul Dholakia’s Raees. Intense, rugged and very, very intriguing, SRK’s flaunting his machismo like no other and we’re sure SRK’s loving it. An earthy role, SRK will be completing the shoot and will plan out a huge Eid bonanaza for his fans next year. But as of now, his slate is filled with some really cool and interesting stuff. Not to forget he’s doing another film with Dharma too, one that also stars Alia Bhatt. But not much is known about the film, so it wouldn’t be right talking about that one.
Nevertheless, with three interesting films lined up in a matter of eight months, SRK might just have the last laugh. Undeniably so.
