Women are omnipresent on TV soaps in various avatars, mother being the prominent one. The most common representation is that of the traditional mom who is a housewife, takes cares of her children and binds the family together. Moving away from the stereotype, we chose to award moms under some fun categories. Read on...

Most Stylish Mom – Durga Devi Patel (Jamai Raja)
Though her name is as traditional as Durga Devi, Achint Kaur who plays the role is anything but that. A jewellery business magnate, DD as she likes to be called is never seen without her hair tucked stylishly in place. Impeccably dressed whether she is in saris – only silks and chiffons teamed with sleeveless blouses – or tights and T-shirts when she is practicing yoga, DD represents the elitist South Mumbai socialite. She has been displaying an exquisite range of jewellery with her neck pieces and earrings. As a mother she is a hard-as-rock as she disapproves of her daughter's choice of life partner.

Most Comic Mom – Dayaben Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah
That it's a comedy show is known, but what makes Disha Vakhani's Dayaben a comic mom is her bizarre ideas when it comes to her son Tappu. Once when Tappu persuaded his schoolmates to go on a strike because they were given a lot to study, instead of chiding him like most moms would, Dayaben decided to take it easy. Not only did she encourage her son and his friends spend all their school time in playing, she also joined in the fun and games. When Tappu was around 15 she was determined to get him married. She even lined up a few proposals for him and had him 'see' the girls just because she wanted a girl in the house! Though he was confused initially, Tapu warmed up to the idea before he realised what he was getting into and it was only when his father Jethalal rubbished his wife's idiotic plan that the drama was averted. However, there is no end to her idiosyncrasies.

Most Negative Mom - Shagun in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein
Unapologetically ambitious and driven by greed, Shagun (Anita Hassanandani) has no qualms furthering her career at the cost of her little daughter Ruhi. When her boss shows interest in her and she feels it'll work to her advantage Shagun doesn't think twice about walking out of her marriage or leaving Ruhi. She returns later to take her but Raman (Shagun's ex husband) marries Ishita (Divyanka Tripathi) and gains Ruhi's custody. Later for a brief while when she does get her daughter, she uses her as a source of income from her husband! Then there is her son Aditya who has been brainwashed into believing how Ishita destroyed his family. Now, she is planning to whisk away her kids to Australia much against their wishes. Can't get more vampish than that, can she?

Most Dramatic Mom – Amba – Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi
From her huge bindis, glitzy eye shadows, gaudy saris to heavy-duty jewellery, Amba (Utkarsha Naik) is completely over-the-top both in her appearance and behaviour. She is a typical nouveau-rich woman who can't wait to show off. Extremely possessive of her son RV (Shakti Arora), she resents his wife Ishani (Radhika Madan) and overreacts to everything that she says or does. And now that she is wealthy she wants to be counted among the elite, so tries to speak broken English, which is intended to be funny but ends up being annoying. No doubt, Amba has cornered the act on being dramatic.

Most Weepy Mom – Akshara in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai
She cries at the drop of a hat whether she is happy, sad or angry. Actually, she doesn't need a reason to cry. Her son Naksh (Rohan Mehra) has to just say bhabhima ki yaad aa rahi hai and she starts crying, if he gets hurt her tears flow, if he has a difference with his father Naitik (Karan Mehra) it's her cue to cry! So much so that Naksh tells her to 'shut the tap' when she starts the water works. After eight years on air, Akshara must have exhausted her tear glands!

Most Strict Mom - Ragini in Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyaar
A divorcee and single parent, Ragini is very harsh and strict in bringing up her children. When her daughter Nishii decided to opt for a love marriage at the age of 18, Ragini was completely against it as she did not want her daughter to commit the same mistakes that she did. When she gets to know that her son Ranbir has committed an accident, it's she who goes and files a complaint against him! A righteous character she always stands for what is right even if that means going against her children. Her children think twice before crossing her.
