After the National Awards were announced on Monday, the team of Bajirao Mastani which won seven awards including Best Director for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, decided to throw an impromptu party at a restaurant in Bandra, Mumbai. While the who’s who of the entertainment industry including Bhansali’s former leading ladies Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor were in full attendance, however, Bhansali’s ‘Mastani’ Deepika Padukone was conspicuous by her absence.

Says an invitee, “She was back in India for a day, the day the National Awards were announced, before returning to shoot for her Hollywood film. She expressed her inability to be present at the party due to a prior commitment.”

However, a source has another story to tell. “She was really hurt by the National Awards snub. She had won all the popular awards for her performance in Piku and Bajirao Mastani. She expected the National Award too. When it didn’t happen she lost her appetite to celebrate with her Bajirao Mastani team.” The National Award this year went to Kangana Ranaut for Tanu Weds Manu Returns.

Ranveer Singh who was also said to be disappointed over his omission from the winners list of the National film awards, did sportingly show up for the party. Also conspicuous by his absence was the Best Actor winner Amitabh Bachchan who was shooting a jewellery ad with wife Jaya. But his bahu Aishwarya was at the party. So was Rekha.
