Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has founded an organisation 'The Live Love Laugh Foundation' that aims to help people who are going through depression. The organisation was founded on March 21, which coincides with the same date last year when the actress decided to seek professional help for her depression.

On Saturday, NDTV telecast a chat show 'Let's talk Depression' where Deepika, her mother Ujjwala Padukone and Counsellor Anna Chandy were present. On the show, Deepika bravely talked about the problems she faced, what she went through and how she overcame the depression with professional help.

On the show Deepika says that in early 2014, when she was shooting for Happy New Year, and after she had won awards and accolades for her role in Ram Leela, she felt empty one morning when she woke up.

'I would have bouts of feeling so low that she would start crying at the drop of the hat. There were times I’d feel okay, and there were times I’d feel really low. Sometimes, being around people helped, sometimes it didn’t help....There were days I just wanted to be in bed, just sleep; not wake up.”

In January, Deepika in an interview with a newspaper had spoken for the first time about her depression. She had said, "There were days when I would feel okay, but at times, within a day, there was a roller-coaster of feelings. Every morning, it was a struggle to wake up, and shoot for Happy New Year's climax..Finally, I accepted my condition. The counselling helped, but only to an extent. Then, I took medication, and today I am much better."

Deepika, who broke down while talking on the show, said that she wants to help others because she doesn't want anyone to go through what she did. She hopes to bring about a change in the lives of those in need of help. She also said that there is shame and stigma attached to talking about depression in our society. But, this has to change so that more and more affected people can talk their way out of depression.

The actress has been receiving immense support on social media for speaking up bravely against depression in our country.
