When Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt came together for a Gauri Shinde directorial, many eyebrows were raised and there were a lot of frowns. Now that the story of the film is a lot clearer, people have opened up to the idea of seeing the two in a unique film with a very different take on modern day love and relationships.
But is it enough to lure the audiences to the theatres? We will get the answer tomorrow when the film releases in India. But the makers have played a very safe bet and it seems that might work for the film, especially in this demonetization zone.
This will be Shah Rukh's smallest release in years. The film will open only to about 1100 screens across India compared to the 3500-5000 screens that a SRK film usually enjoys in the country. Considering it's a more multiplex friendly, niche film catering to a more limited audience base, the makers decided to go ahead with a smaller release and that might bring in better results, especially when occupancies are
Akshaye Rathi tells us, "Picture this. Fan released around 4000 screens, Sultan hit 5000 screens. And this is just 1100 which is 1/5th of the screens that a Sultan released in. So it's a very limited release. Some of the biggest single screens are not screening the film. The distributors too have played safe and targeted more multiplexes. But it doesn't matter. The film doesn't have to be a 100 crore film to become a hit film so the makers are already in a very safe zone."
