With Padmavati sticking to its released date (November 17), Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone won’t draw a blank at the Bollywood box-office this year.

A lean year

A rumoured no-show would have been a big blow to both actors. Deepika’s last Bollywood release was in December 2015 (Bajirao Mastani). Ranveer Singh’s last flick was Befikre, which arrived in December 2016. As for Shahid Kapoor, Rangoon arrived in February this year, which didn’t bring in the crowds.

Padmavati being postponed would mean it would be a lean year for the film’s lead trio as none of them has any other release planned in 2017.

Do saal baad

And while Deepika Padukone had a talked-about role in an international release, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, the film wasn’t a major success. Her continued absence would translate into her being MIA from Bollywood for over two years.

Visibility is there

“Ranveer has been making his presence felt through various endorsements, especially the ones featuring him with Alia Bhatt. That has ensured very good visibility for him in some way with audiences. Shahid, too, is in the news with him and wife Mira Rajput turning out to be a couple much-in-love. From the visibility perspective, the trio is up there. However, a film experience on the big screen is something else,” an observer comments.

A six-month wait

With sources close to Sanjay Leela Bhansali now rubbishing rumours about the film being pushed to 2018, it’s only a short six-month wait before the trio hits screens with Padmavati.
