Come back, Kapil. All is forgiven. Lately, stories of Kapil Sharma's high-handedness have been floating around. According to one of his colleagues, Kapil "doesn't allow the channel (Colors) to forget for even a minute who is the star of Comedy Nights With Kapil."

Well, good to be reminded of the obvious. Here's news for Colors. Kapil is indeed the weekend star of the Channel. The new show ominously titled, Comedy Night Bachao (it's not Comedy Nights but this new show that that needs to be bacho-ed) is a disastrous attempt at generating humour out of unruly conduct.

In some circles, they call it a 'roast'. Thanks to Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, we are all familiar with what a roast is. It is an accepted comic ritual where celebrities are invited and insulted. The problem with the concept in the Bollywood context is the lack of genuine celebrities, who would want to come on the show to be vilified for fun.

Let's face it, you won't see Karan Johar or Sonakshi Sinha or anyone, who got roasted for their participation in the infamous Roast. That leaves the Channel with questionable 'celebrities' like Sohail Khan and Mika, who came on the inaugural episode and got royally snubbed and smirked at by the show's aggressive anchors Abhishek Krushna, Bharati Singh etc. Bharati, by the way, wore a crimson-red executive suit that flattered and flirted with her flab. Stylist, please quit.

Sohail was rigorously ribbed about his only claim to fame being Salman Khan. Poor Karan Wahi even did a skit where he played Sohail Khan on stage.Daawat-e-Ishq is now a dream in the past. Really, how low can aspirations fall?

To his credit Sohail took all the jokes about being job-less, hit-less, shirt-less, brain-less sportingly. Sohail has a made-for-reality-show personality. He laughs uproariously and convincingly on cue at the most unfunny jokes.

But Mika hardly fits into the roast-able category. How can you insult a man who goes round insulting himself everywhere? Mika was subjected to the usual quota of Rakhi Sawant jokes and skits about the ribald mood of his songs.

All this would've been mildly funny had it been done in the spirit of harmless zest. But the tone throughout was mean and vicious. Worse still, a distinct element of vulgarity was allowed into the parodic potion. At some point a comedian on stage was seen peering up a starlet's dress.

Gutthu and Daadi, dekho kya ho raha hai.

Kapil Sharma's USP is his wholesome family-oriented humour. Comedy Night Bachao is aimed at creating crude comic conjectures out of the alleged celebrity's professional and personal life.It doesn't work because the humorous intentions are over-layered with a desperation to score over Kapil's show.

Kapi will have the last laugh.
