For his first ever live music concert, Dil Se, Shekhar Suman has managed to get Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as the chief guest. “He has been really kind,” says Shekhar. Other industry people, who are supporting him, include Mahesh Bhatt and Prakash Jha. Udit Narayan, Mika Singh, Divya Kumar and Aditya Narayan will be guest singers. Shekhar, who has been training in classical music for 10 years, will be paying a tribute to legendary singers Kishore Kumar and Mohd Rafi. Even his son Adhyayan will take to the stage to sing, although he will render songs from his films Raaz and Jashn.

Talking about his concert Shekhar says, “I have been working on it for eight to 10 years to reach here. In today’s times, when people are singing on plus tracks (lipsyncing) I will be going ahead and singing it live, which is a big challenge. My philosophy of life has been to get out of my comfort zone and do something that the world doesn’t expect me to.”

Web series a la Movers & shakers

The actor is looking at doing a web series, too. “That’s where the future lies. I am keen on doing either a fiction series or something through which I will talk about the day-to-day happenings in a topical way, something on the lines of Movers & Shakers.” He reasons that digital platform gives a huge creative independence and there is no censorship on the web. “Also, there is nothing to watch on TV and 90 per cent of the youth has switched to the web,” he reckons.

Grey shades

Last seen on the big screen in Heartless, which he had also directed, Shekhar feels there is a paradigm shift in cinema.  “It’s the era of ensemble actors. If it wasn’t that, then Amitabh Bachchan wouldn’t have bagged the award of Best Actor for Pink. Earlier, he would be considered as a character actor or it would have been a supporting role, but now there are no boundaries. There are no definitions,” says Shekhar, who now wants to experiment and play a negative role or one with grey shades. Meanwhile, he will be sharing screen space with Sanjay Dutt in his comeback movie Bhoomi. He says, “I have an interesting role in the film as a tourist guide based in Agra.”
