Even the word shocking has lost its edge in today’s times, as everyone is out to grab eyeballs, making a statement or simply trying to make their presence felt. If crotch-baring dresses made your jaw drop, think about seeing a bride clad in sheer for her big day. It’s not hard to picture, as a sheer bridal collection was actually showcased at the New York Bridal Fashion Week last year. But would these designs find takers off the runway? And would sheer bridal dresses actually work? These are some of the questions we posed to women from different sections of society, and most agreed that while the designs looked great on the runway, it would be hard to carry them off in public...

‘A wedding environment is very different’

I like the first Khaleesi-inspired outfit and the second one that has geishas embroidery on it. The outfits, in general, look attractive, but I would not wear any of them. Some dresses look good on the runway, but a wedding environment is very different. Your guests are come there to celebrate the day with you, and none of these outfits would be appropriate for the occasion unless you are having a cocktail dinner with a sheer theme later.

Honestly, I think all of them are gorgeous. I love the first, a Khaleesi-inspired white tulle gown and the second one, Meili’s blue smoke gown, but wearing these might be a tough call as they are too sheer. They may look fab on the ramp, but it requires a great amount of modesty to actually wear them.

‘No problem on the wedding night’

Honestly, speaking I would wear neither of them for my wedding mass or party but would have no problem on wearing any of them for the wedding night (wink).

‘Indian weddings are still traditional’
Mini Parab

I think we are slowly moving to sheer fabrics. We see celebrities like Kristen Stewart, Rihanna, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, to name a few, who have been seen on red carpet rocking sheer dresses. Indian weddings are still more traditional with more religious beliefs. Most of the gowns (above) show a lot of skin, which might not be well accepted by the older generation (parents and relatives). However, I think, I might consider wearing the fifth (Pronovias gown), which has a plunging neckline or the sixth one with the long trail, especially for a cocktail party.
