Celebs share their thoughts on what they plan to buy on Akshaya Tritiya today.

Hema Malini, actor
Akshaya Tritiya is an auspicious day for my family. We seek blessings from Goddess Laxmiji for everyone’s well-being and prosperity. Today, people have commercialised the occasion and hence, buying gold and other valuables has become a trend. Fifty years back, people didn’t do that, simple puja and spending quality time with family and friends was more important. And with gold prices soaring this year, it puts an unnecessary pressure on people to buy just to keep up with their friends. It’s not right. It’s an auspicious time, and one should utilise it  in the right way.”

Sakshi Tanwar, TV actor
“We women love jewellery, and it’s also an investment for us. An auspicious mahurat of Akshaya Tritya, when Goddess Laxmi is bestowing her love and blessings on us, gives us the perfect excuse in indulging in some gold jewellery. This year, however, I’m shooting till late, but I do plan to take time out and pamper myself to some gold jewellery. Last year, on the spur of the moment I got my nose pierced on Akshaya Tritiya itself.”

Bipasha Basu, actor
For actor Bipasha Basu, Akshaya Tritiya is not a festival that she particularly celebrates, but she’s aware of its importance. “The day is considered very auspicious and it’s said that buying gold on this day brings prosperity. Elders in my family go and shop for gold or diamonds on this auspicious day, though I myself haven’t done it yet,” says the actor. “But I do wish everyone a happy shopping and peace and prosperity,” smiles Bipasha. Meanwhile, the hottie also reveals that as of now there are no plans of her going to Cannes this year. “I am shooting for Race 2 and around May 11, I will leave for the UK to finish Singularity. So, Cannes is not happening for me this year. At least so far,” she says.

Amrita Rao, actor
Clothes and accessories have replaced the regular buying of gold on Akshaya Tritiya, this year. And this kind of summer shopping is compulsory for girls, we just need any reason, but the auspicious day is the perfect excuse to go bling shopping for sure.”
