After Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, it is now Karnataka that has capped the price of movie tickets at Rs 200, multiplexes included. Gold class tickets, however have been exempted from this ruling. But can the same be applied in Maharashtra?

A number of industry insiders told a Bombay Times that it can be done. Producer Mukesh Bhatt told the paper that they have been trying to get the state and central governments to lower the ticket prices for a long time now, but to no avail. "None of us have anything against someone's film doing well, but absurdly high pricing is not the way to do it," he told the paper.

Amod Mehra, an independent distributor agreed with him. "Ticket prices should be controlled," he told the daily. However, distributor and theatre owner Hemant Shah said that the price of a ticket is determined by the quality of the film.
