We knows it’s Raksha Bandhan, a festival celebrating the brother-sister bond, where-in the brother vows to protect his behna. But what happens when the protector becomes the destroyer?  For, there have been brothers, both on reel and in real, who have hurt their siblings, either directly or indirectly. Recently, the Pakistani internet sensation Qandeel Baloch was killed by her brother as he felt she brought dishonour to the family with her controversial pictures and videos.

This year’s biggest Marathi hit, Sairat was based on honour killing where the heroine’s brother murdered her for marrying a lower caste boy. However, it’s not always the sister who is the victim even a brother can be targetted. Here we present some wicked on-screen bros who made their sibling’s life hell.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo

A story of two half-brothers, their relationship was fraught with jealousy, betrayal and dishonesty. While Vijay (Salman Khan) the king-in-waiting was the good brother, Ajay (Neil Nitin Mukesh) was a greedy crown prince who had his eye on the throne. He could go to any extent to gain the riches and become the king, even kill his brother. It’s a different thing that Vijay escapes the assassination attempt while his lookalike goes about making peace with the warring brother who regrets his actions. And as in a Barjatya film, all’s well that ends well.

Ugly

In this film, the good-for-nothing brother will stoop to any level to make easy money, even con his sister! When Shalini (Tejaswini Kolhapure) is distraught that her daughter is kidnapped, her brother Siddhant (Siddhant Kapoor) takes advantage of the situation. Though he hasn’t kidnapped his niece and has no idea about her whereabouts, he muffles his voice to make a ransom call to Shalini and demands `50 lacs. As soon as the money reaches him, he splurges it on himself without an ounce of guilt.  Now, that’s a brother one can do without, thanks.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan

Here, a brother first finds a bride for his bhai and later wants her for himself! Luv (Ali Zafar) who has a bad break-up with his girlfriend tells his younger brother Kush (Imran Khan) to find him a dulhan. The obedient younger brother earnestly looks for an ideal bride for his brother and finds her in Dimple (Katrina Kaif). Luv and Dimple like each other, and agree to tie the knot. But when the preparations for their wedding begin, Kush and Dimple get drawn to each other. They then start making plans to ditch bade bhaiyya and get hitched themselves! Bhai na ho koi aisa..

NH10

A brother killing his sister and her lover in the name of honour is at the heart of this gritty thriller. A young girl Pinky asks a couple Arjun (Neil Bhoopalam) and Meera (Anushka Sharma) for help as some gang members are trying to kill her.
