Akshay Kumar has finally struck gold. After three back to back average money spinners, it seems Airlift will turn the game for Akki this year. Last year, Baby had released but it failed to bring in the money it was expected to. But Airlift has hit the right chord. With a potentially viable theme, commercially viable faces, Airlift has managed to turn a great story into something that connects with the audiences.

Undoubtedly one of Akshay's finest performances in recent years, Airlift has been going strong at the box office. Despite a clash with Kya Kool Hai Hum 3, the film has managed to set a great trend at the BO. That of good content scoring over masala mindless entertainment. After recording an opening weekend of Rs 44 crore approx, the film added another Rs 10.40 crore on Monday.

It was on Tuesday, Republic Day that the film grew leaps and bounds and collected its highest figure till date. Airlift added Rs 17.80 crore to its kitty on Tuesday itself, which is even more than what it collected on its first Sunday. On Wednesday, it witnessed an expected sharp drop and netted in around Rs 6 crore.

Overall, the 6-day total of the film stands at Rs 78.50 crore. Still one day to go, it will easily become Akshay's biggest opening week collections, beating Rowdy Rathore. The Prabhu Dheva directorial had collected around Rs 79 crore in a week's time and Airlift seemed to have overtaken that already and will record the highest week one collections for any Akshay starrer.

Will it also beat Rowdy Rathore's lifetime collections of Rs 135 crore? All depends on how the film fares from here onwards.
