Bombay Jayashri bags Oscar nomination for 'Life of Pi'

India goes to Oscar's again as Chennai-based Carnatic vocalist Bombay Jayashri won a nomination for original score in Life of Pi, raising hopes after 2009 to repeat the Academy Awards

Jayashri has been nominated in the 'Original Song' category for Pi's Lullaby composed by Mychael Danna in the film

"I feel so happy and I think it's by god's grace and all my teacher's blessings and it is a very great opportunity to work with director Ang Lee and Mychael Danna," she told the media here

An overwhelmed Jayashri further said that Oscar winning musician AR Rahman has congratulated her on her feat

"He has in so many ways set the trend and set the path for many creative people to follow. Even in this case, I am so glad that he has wished me and I hope that with this, many-many more people form India will get recognised in the world," she sai

Jayashri, who is also a music composer, is a star playback singer in Tamil cinema

She has been trained in Hindustani music and plays violin and 'Veena', a plucked musical instrument from Indian sub-continent

Earlier in 2009, star music composer AR Rahman, nicknamed 'The Mozart of Madras' by the Indian media, made history by brining India's first Oscar home

Life of Pi is based on the best-selling novel by Yann Martel, directed by Ang Lee and stars Indian newcomer Suraj Sharma

The fantasy shipwreck film received 11 Oscar nods, including one for best picture.
