2012 has been a loud year, albeit a fabulous one for the Bollywood music industry with songs ranging from romantic ballads to rock tracks to groovy item numbers all finding a favour with the Bolly junta. And not just predictable fare, there was enough experimenting with folk and offbeat music as well that was as hungrily lapped up by music-lovers. Here’s taking a look at five songs from different genres that had us bring out the dancers in us...

1. Song: Anarkali disco chali

Movie: Housefull 2
Music director: Sajid-Wajid
Another item song that rocked the year and left everyone grooving was this Malaika Arora Khan number. Composed by Sajid Wajid, the quirky lyrics had every listener sing along to the catchy song. A song that put Munni... on the backseat, it is still ruling the roost and is much in demand on the dancefloor.

2. Song: Keh ke loonga

Movie: Gangs of Wasseypur 1
Music director: Sneha Khanwalkar
A folk outing by Sneha, the song is not the usual run-of-the-mill Bollywood number, but made
its mark because of the unpredictable orchestration and lyrics.

3. Song: Chikni Chameli

Movie: Agneepath
Music director: Ajay- Atul
The year began on a groovy note with Chikni Chameli, Katrina Kaif’s hit item number from Agneepath. The song soared on the charts and still continues to be a party favourite. High on energy and impact, this soundtrack is just as sizzling as Kat’s previous hit Sheila ki jawani.

4. Song: Tum hi ho bandhu

Movie: Cocktail
Music director: Pritam
This is one fun song with a great repeat value that had us all hooked. The peppy song — picturised on Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty — was an instant hit with partygoers and went on to become the party anthem of the year. The visuals only added to the appeal.

5. Song: Radha

Movie: Student Of The Year
Music director: Vishal Dadlani
This catchy track from Karan Johar’s film will compel you to get into your dancing shoes. This modern rendition of a ched-chad number, features Alia Bhatt-Varun Dhawan-Siddharth Malhotra and is packed with youthful energy.
