Close on the heels of the recently concluded Cannes film festival where Indian beauties, films and filmmakers created much buzz, came news of Indian actors including Anil Kapoor winning accolades at the prestigious New York film festival. Later, the Monaco Grand Prix saw Bollywood presence with the cast of Peddlers and even actor Jacqueline Fernandez attending the social event. Actor Vidya Balan too was much celebrated in Australia, where she attended a film festival. While Bollywood has been making its presence felt at various international film festivals, there’re also reports that Bollywood tunes and traditional Indian melodies will add colour to the celebrations marking  60 years of service of Queen Elizabeth II in London this month. London will have an added dose of Bollywood glamour at the Olympics too, as there’s buzz of actors Farhan Akhtar, Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone lending support to Indian players there. Actor Amitabh Bachchan too is expected to attend the Bal de l’Ete, which is one of the most sought after events on the society calendars internationally,  as the guest of honour. Pop queen Madonna apparently wants to team up with Oscar winner AR Rahman, who has earlier too collaborated with several biggies there. Recently even artist Sophie Choudry’s song featured in a film on talk show host Jay Leno, where he talks of an Indian addition to his fleet of cars. So, it’s not just India which is getting higher on the iterinary of Hollywood biggies, as the recent visits prove — Tom Cruise, Hugh Jackman, Julia Roberts, Judi Dench, Paris Hilton, John Travolta, Oprah Winfrey… but Indian presence is being felt all across too.

“Yes, Bollywood is gradually making its presence felt internationally and it’s encouraging to see that the perception of India has changed for the better,” says actor Anil Kapoor. Trade analyst Komal Nahta feels that the constant exchange of talent and the assimilation is rather seamless too. “Today we have Hollywood directors making films in Indian context, there’re actors who’ve worked in films there. International media recognises Bollywood faces and track them just as much. Basically, everyone wants a slice of Bollywood and the desi impact cannot be overlooked,” says Nahta.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who had two films at Cannes this year, says that it’s not just about being recognised, but being recognised with respectability. “Interest in Indian films and actors is at an all-time high. International recognition may not be a benchmark of success for many, but it cannot be overlooked that out there Bollywood does matter,” adds Kashyap.
