Years ago when Amitabh Bachchan was emerging as the superstar of Bollywood, he was also gaining brownie points among his fans with his singing talent. Bachchan charmed his fans with his dusky deep baritone. Ironically he was rejected once for the post of news announcer in Radio. But Big B started his career as a voice actor even before formal foray into acting business.

Big B's voice can sparkle the dullest of a phrase, poem or a song. As the actor has turned 72 today, let's celebrate his birthday by reminiscing the best of the tracks gifted by him.

Have a look:

Rang Barse from Silsila (1981)

The cult Holi song, composed by Shiv-Hari and written by Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan, is one of the best songs sung by Amitabh Bachchan. Directed by romance king Yash Chopra, the song features Amitabh celebrating the festival with Jaya Bachchan.

Buddha Hoga Terra Baap from Buddah... Hoga Terra Baap (2011)

Even though the comedy flick—Buddha... Hoga Terra Baap—featuring Amitabh in the lead role, did not do well at the box office, it definitely gave his fans a track that is sure to stay with them forever. Lyrics penned by music composer-singer Vishal Dadlani, it is one of the actor's most recent tracks. In the song, he makes it clear to his fans that he is not old.

Ekla Cholo Re from Kahaani (2012)

Big B recreated the charisma of Rabindranath Tagore's famous song Ekla Cholo Re for Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani in 2012. Not just did the Bengali song became a huge success, his tribute to the iconic poet was highly appreciated by everybody. Music director of the movie was Vishal-Shekhar.

Hori Khele Raghuveera from Baghban (2003)

By giving voice to the chirpy festival number, Big B definitely made it the Holi anthem of all time. The foot-thumping track composed by Aadesh Shrivastava revived the spirit of the festival in the song penned by Sameer after Rang Barse from Silsila. It was after a long time that Big B had sung a song that had a festive vibe to it.

Main Yahan Tu Wahan from Baghban (2003)

In the soulful track from the 2003 drama flick Baghban, Amitabh dedicated the song to his wife, role played by Hema malini, who is far away from him. Written by Sameer, the song was composed by Aadesh Shrivastava. It was a duet with adept singer Alka Yagnik.

Mere Angney Mein from Lawaaris (1981)

From the 1981 blockbuster, the song—Mere Angney mein tumhara kya kaam hai—mocks wives on the basis of different parameters like colour, size and height. Keeping it simple, music directors Kalyanji-Anandji have done absolute justice to the funny lyrics by Anjaan, whereas Amitabh's fluent singing has made it an evergreen dance number.
