David Dhawan is undoubtedly the pioneer of Indian comedy films. With a plethora of super hit films to his credit, Davidji has always gifted the industry and the audiences with some rib-tickling comedy, which had us in splits.

While today, most comic capers induce comedy forcefully or through the use of some utterly disgusting one-liners, comedy in Bollywood has become silly tomfoolery. Raising a toast to the person who redefined Indian comedy through his cinematic vision, we bring a list of actors who definitely owe their careers to David Dhawan.

Govinda:

Every time Govinda needed someone to save his sinking Bollywood career, he had David Dhawan for help. Whether it was reviving his career with a 'Shola aur Shabnam' or giving him his career's biggest hits, Davidji did everything he could for the actor! He not only made Govinda a brand but gave him a franchise of No.1 films- 'Coolie no.1', 'Aunty No.1' and 'Hero no.1' along with commercially viable movies like 'Raja Babu' and 'Deewana Mastana'. Not just that, people had forgotten Govinda until he again brought him back to limelight with 'Partner'.

Rishi Kapoor:

Rishi was a superstar in the '80s who slowly started losing his charm in the '90s. That's when David Dhawan came and turned tables for him signing him for 'Bol Radha Bol'.

Anil Kapoor:

He was always the jhakaas actor who was considered a 'serious actor' post Virasat when David Dhawan brought out the comic side in him. In one of Davidji's personal best, Anil Kapoor's hilarious act in 'Deewana Mastana' helped him shed his 'serious actor' tag and prove his versatility to the world.

Akshay Kumar:

Akshay Kumar might have ben the true blue action star in Bollywood since times immemorial but he never had a continuous run of success back then. It was David Dhawan's 'Mr and Mrs. Khiladi' that helped him perfect his comic timing. He went on to do 'Hera Pheri' and the rest, as we know is history!

Salman Khan:

Like Govinda, David Dhawan's camaraderie with Salman Khan goes back decades! He somehow was one of those few directors other than the Barjatyas who brought the best in Salman. Salman went on to do some super successful films with him- 'Biwi no.1', 'Judwaa', 'Partner' and others. Today Salman might have nailed his Chulbul Pandey act but he definitely would agree that David Dhawan was the one who brought out his comical side!

Amitabh Bachchan:

David helped Big B when he was going through the worst phase in his career. With nothing to lose, Amitabh Bachchan relied completely on good friend Dhawan who went on to reinvent and resurrect his almost finished career and today, Amit ji is a force to reckon with!

Karisma Kapoor:

She was undeniably his muse and everything they did together, turned gold. While Karisma was appreciated in all her films with David Dhawan, she also found a strong footing in the industry after her films- 'Hero no.1', 'Raja Babu', 'Biwi no.1' and others performed supremely well at the box office. Govinda and Karisma became one of the most sought after pairs and their songs went on to become chart busters!

Sanjay Dutt:

Sanjay Dutt had a turbulent past with a lot of controversies enveloping his career graph but one person who always had immense faith and trust in Sanju was good friend David Dhawan. Bringing him back on track and offering him some delicious comedies each time, Sanjay Dutt had an array of David Dhawan films- from 'Haseena Man Jayegi' to 'Rascals'- that kept him going, amidst all the negativity from every corner.

Varun Dhawan:

Although Varun Dhawan's a starlet, he is a self-made man. After Karan Johar introduced Varun Dhawan as an actor and got him the necessary recognition, it was father David Dhawan's 'Main Tera Hero' that established Varun as a 'hero'. From his Govinda-ish elements to his Salman-ish maneuvers, Varun's Seenu won hearts and prepared the stage for him. Everyone started labeling Varun as the new age Govinda and the next Salman Khan, which he definitely would not have expected with his second film!
