He came, he composed and he conquered! One of the biggest music icons in the country, someone who has made us proud at the international stage as well, AR Rahman has gifted the industry with several musical gems and magical albums over the years.

Today, as the musical maestro celebrates his 48th birthday, we bring you 10 all time favourites from his music in Bollywood. Take a listen:

Roja:

With the music of the film replete with soulful renditions, ones that tugged the heart at the right places, AR Rahman made a powerful debut with Roja. From the melodious Dil Hai Chhota Sa to the peppy Rukmani, Rahman also packed in beautiful romantic tracks like Yeh Haseen Waadiyaan and Roja Jaaneman. And who can forget the iconic Bharat Hum Ko Jaan Se Pyaara Hai number which instilled a sense of patriotism in us!

Bombay:

If Roja was good, Bombay was several notches higher. Where Kehna Hi Kya made us fall in love, Tu Hi Re turned out to be the love anthem of the year! Along with the soulful numbers, Rahman added in his usual punch with the song Hamma Hamma.

Dil Se:

The third instalment in Mani Ratnam's terror trilogy, Dil Se had some powerful songs to go with it. Chaiyya Chaiyya still ranks as one of the biggest crowd pullers, adding the zing to any party while Jiya Jaale coalesced the supreme talents of Rahman, Gulzar and Lata Mangeshkar.

Rangeela:

Rangeela was actually Rahman's debut Hindi film with an original score, as the previous ones were dubbed from his Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu scores. Urban and engaging, Rangeela had a good blend of everything - from love songs to the sensuous Hai Rama.

Rang De Basanti:

Rebellious and powerful, Rahman's RDB album spoke volumes of the maestro's strengths. He packed in a variety of numbers in his trademark style and tne track Luka Chhupi stands out as a personal favourite! Quite a tearjerker, we must admit.

Taal:

Director Subhash Ghai decided to sign Rahman for Taal, and the rest as we know, is history! Possibly one of his best compositions, Rahman presented a perfect concoction of the eastern and the western in what came across as a brilliant fusion of the two genres. And this was one of those few films where the songs overpowered the script for sure.

Saathiya:

Another musical gem, Saathiya boasted of some soulful renditions, composed by Rahman. He brought along musical geniuses like Asha Bhonsle, Sonu Nigam, Richa Sharma, Kunal Ganjawala, Adnan Sami, Sadhana Sargam, Shaan and others together to create a memorable score.

Guru:

If you've loved the Barso Re number and have played Mayya Mayya on the loop, you are definitely not alone. An interesting mix yet again, Guru's music album was sheer brilliance.

Rockstar:

The film might have been panned by many, but there were still two things that caught everyone's attention- Rahman's songs and Ranbir's spectacular performance! From a Kun Faya Kun to a Jo Bhi Main, Rahman sparkled throughout. And who can forget Sadda Haq that became the youth anthem of the year. Rightly so!

Highway:

Director Imtiaz Ali himself has a strong sense of music and with AR Rahman in the team, things were expected to be magnanimous. So it was. Highway could have never been the same without Rahman's compositions. Endearing and soulful enough to give you goosebumps, the music in Highway was definitely a 2014 favourite.
