Bipasha glad to see people showing eagerness to participate in sports

Bollywood star Bipasha Basu on Sunday expressed her gladness with growing enthusiasm among people, both men and women showing their keenness to participate in all kinds of sports including the 'Airtel Delhi Half Marathon' as a right signal for the nation stepping forward into the world of sports.

"We are definitely stepping forward in the world of sports, in terms of the kind of participation that we have from the male and the female segments of sports people. The good thing is that nowadays all the sports people who are doing something for the country, they also talk and inspire the youth of the country," a beaming Basu told mediapersons here.

"There has been a 25 % increase in the number of women participation. And even for the half marathon the people registered are a 13000 plus. So, I think it's definitely India stepping forward, each city is getting more fitness conscious, they want to be healthy, and they want to be fit. And, yes there is a keen interest in sports, and all kinds of sports, I am not just saying cricket and I think there are lot of varied interests in today's time in all kinds of sports," she added.

The Bollywood beauty who is reportedly the "Face of the Event" also added that events like a marathon reflects the mood of the society and of the city.

"So, it is a great thing that not only that they are playing sports and making us proud of what they do, they are also coming out and talking about their stories, their life and in the process inspiring a lot of people. So, events like a marathon in a city, it kind of reflects the mood of the society and of the city. It talks about people from all walks of life, every age group comes out today and the numbers are growing every year in Delhi for the ADHM (Airtel Delhi Half Marathon)," Basu said.

The marathon which started here from Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium saw Guye Adola from Ethiopia and Florence Kiplagat from Kenya winning the men's and women's category races respectively of this edition of the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon.
