Billboard Music Awards 2014: Justin Timberlake wins an unprecedented 11 awards, Jennifer Lopez first woman to win Icon Award

The 2014 Billboard Music Awards took place May 18 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada. The show was hosted by rapper Ludacris.

The competition this year was fierce including favorites like Justin Timberlake and Katy Perry each with 11 and 10 nominations respectively, both receiving nominations for top artist. Miley Cyrus surfaces with 9 nominations for laurels that include top artist, top female artist and Hot 100 artist. 

Nominees also includes newer sensations your radio wouldn't stop playing like independent artists Macklemore and Ryan Lewis who had 8 nominations that included top duo/group. 

The leading nominees included Lorde and Imagine Dragons each with 12 nominations. 

The performances kicked off with Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull who performed the 2014 World Cup theme 'Ole Ola.'

Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX performed the hit single ‘Fancy’ and Ariana Grande joined Iggy to perform her single “Problem.”

Performances were also delivered by 5 Seconds of Summer as well as Shakira and Miranda Lambert.

One of the biggest awards of the night 'Top Billlboard 200 Album' went to Justin Timberlake for The 2020 Experience.

Katy Perry fired up with another performance highlighted by her cute meets sexy style and a single 'Birthday.'

There was also a performance by a group that made waves this year, Imagine Dragons.

The award for Top Country Artist went to Luke Bryan. 

One of the night's most talked about moments was undoubtedly the Michael Jackson tribute, where a hologram of Michael Jackson was seen performing his 'new' single "Slave to the Rhythym"

Two major awards of the night went to Lorde's 'Royals' for Best Rock Song and to Katy Perry for Top Female Artist. 

Miley Cyrus surprised with a 'Lucy In The Sky with Diamonds' cover.

Justin Timberlake walked off with the most awards that evening including top artist, top male artist and top Billboard 200 Artist.

JLo won the Icon Award, being the first woman to have won she received a standing ovation for her legacy as well as for her performance.
