Mark Gatiss, one of the writers and showrunner of the show, and BBC One announced the beginning of the shoot a few days ago via a small video posted on BBC's Twitter account.

This is the first time the makers of Sherlock have given the reigns of the show to a woman director. Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat have worked with her on four episodes of Doctor Who. The fandom cheered on Rachel Talalay with full gusto.

Then on Monday, Gatiss gave what everyone in the fandom wanted. Benedict Cumberbatch shooting for Sherlock sporting iconic curls and the coveted Belstaff coat!

Twist and diffuse is back, people!

Benedict joined the shoot on Monday after a week of filming with Louise Brealey and Una Stubbs who play Molly Hooper and Mrs. Hudson respectively, was put in the can. The crew is shooting at Pinewood studios in Cardiff, Wales.

He will juggle between promotion of his Marvel superhero movie Doctor Strange, and BBC's Shakespeare adaptation series Hollow Crown in which he will portray Richard III, and shooting for Sherlock.
