My earliest childhood memories of Ganeshotsav are the sarvajanik festival they used to celebrate in Janki Kutir in Juhu, where the entire colony would come together to celebrate the event. Ganpati puja for me and my brother Raja was like celebrating Durga puja and visiting all the pandals around the city.

I have been celebrating Ganpati at my bungalow for the last three years. Before that my bhabhi and brother celebrated it at their office and then at our Yari Road residence. We celebrate it for five days and there's a lot of eating from morning to night. Nobody is allowed to diet on Ganpati as the God himself loves food. During those five days it's an open house in my home where people just keep coming through the day. This year I won't be able to celebrate as I am travelling for the Mardaani promotions. But I will be visiting all my friends homes to see their Ganpati.

I am so thrilled with my last release Mardaani that I feel completely blessed by Bappa. My first scene in the film has a mouse who is Ganpati's vaahan and the film released just a week before the festival. The chooha has brought a lot of happiness in my life as I feel it's a sign of Ganpatiji. The film is also doing extremely well and the response has been overwhelming. Apart from that the audience has emotionally connected to the film. I feel satisfied and grateful that Mardaani has been received in the right spirit.

I think it's great that dna has taken the initiative for celebrating eco-Ganesha for the last five years. We need to preserve our environment. I have been bringing idols made of clay for years. I think with the times we have to move ahead and if eco-Ganpatis are the need of the day we have to respect that and do what is required as citizens of the world. With our kind of culture and so many festivals doing visarjans with idols that are not environment-friendly, is not doable. We have to be a little sensitive to world opinion and yet enjoy our pujas as well.
