Bajrangi Bhaijaan: Why it's not another typical Salman Khan film

If you are going to watch Bajrangi Bhaijaan expecting the trademark Salman Khan Dabangg debonair attitude and the dhishoom dhishoom, you will be pleasantly surprised to see a different shade of Salman. We assure you.

I remember meeting Salman Khan for Kick last year and the actor was super confident that the film will work wonders at the box office. And it did. Why? Kick somehow traced on the same lines as most other Salman films do. He wasn't arrogant but he knew he was giving the audiences something that suits their taste buds. At least when it's Salman. The style, the slick action sequences, the scorching camaraderie between the lead pair and two catchy, peppy dance numbers. Cut to Bajrangi Bhaijaan this year and you see a complete shift in his moods. He's a lot calmer and is more excited than confident to present such a beautiful film to his audience.

Forget the gibberish logic-less films that he's known for. Erase the Dabanggs and the Readys from your mind before you catch hold of your seat at the theatre to watch Bajrangi Bhaijaan.  Let Salman's endearing Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi aka Bajrangi Bhaijaan seep you into the film, albeit rather slowly.

Once you come out of the theatre, you know what you watched is not the  usual Salman Khan film. It doesn't have the larger than life Salman Khan beating 20 people at once or the Dabangg hero walking in style with his sunglasses placed on his collar back. Glady so. BB brings back the Salman we have missed for years now - an actor lost in the rat race of numbers, in the crowd of box office figures. Thank God, Kabir decided to go his way and take decisions instead. Thank God, he infused the old school loverboy back into the celebrated superhero of Bollywood today.

Bajrangi is different. From the first frame. Right away you are drawn into the lives of Munni/Shahida- the little and extremely adorable Harshali Malhotra- who plays the girl lost in India without her voice, Pawan- the Bajrangbali bhakt who's as good as Salman's Prem, who prefers good over evil, truth over lies and sacrifice over love, Rasika- the school teacher who falls in love with Pawan and stands by his side like a rock. And then there's Chand Nawab- a talented journalist trying-to-get-an-opportunity to prove his mettle to the world.

Salman's films are usually laced with dollops of action and maara maari and immense dialogue-baazi. We're saying it again: BB is different! Bajrangi banks on the flurry of emotions that envelop the entire story, the love between Pawan and Rasika but most importantly, it's about the bond between Bajrangi and his Munni. Your heart reaches out to the little girl who plays it so convincingly well that you just want to give her a tight hug. There's hardly few action scenes, rather just one! But that too, has been shot in a much more real manner. Fitting Salman's character, he doesn't hit back at 50 odd people at once. Rather, this is one un-Salman action scene for sure. Does that mean there are no ceetees or taalis? No. This particular scene draws as much cheers as another larger-than-life Salman-ish action scene would have.

Kabir hits a home run with the film. It's the same age old triumph of good over evil story, told in a different fashion. It's not just triumph of love, it's a victory of sacrifice! Kabir weaves a spectacular plot, raising a toast to the Indo-Pak unison, with Salman in tow. Plus, the director doesn't go overboard. He has his heart in the right place and takes you through the emotional wringer. But come on, we all go prepared for it. So keep your hankies at bay for sure. He promised BB is more about Munni and Bajrangi. Salman does exactly that. It's more Harshali's film than Salman's or Kareena's. She's the star of the film and it shows. With so much of human emotions and feelings involved, Salman finally has a film which he should be proud of.

No matter what the film makes at the box office, Salman, you have a winner at hand. For sure. But just one last request, Bhai. Do your Dabanggs and Bodyguards, but please make time for some Bajrangi Bhaijaans too. This is what you do best. And we sincerely hope we don't lose our Salman again in the competition of mere figures. In real, you are more Being Human than Dabangg. Do the same on reel too, Bhaijaan!
