Actors often quit shows for various reasons. It could be because they are unhappy with the way the role is shaping up or because they have differences with the producers. Sometimes their characters are also bumped off the show to create an impact. However, more often than not, the actors have a change of heart or the producers are forced to bring them back owing to public demand. Amar Upadhyay was the first actor to be brought back from the dead when his character Mihir Virani’s exit from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi didn’t go down well the viewers. In recent times, Vivian Dsena’s exit from Madhubala owing to differences with the producers created a storm. After resolving them he was not only back, but played a double role.

A lowdown on actors who quit their shows lately only to return...

Kratika Sengar - Kasam Tere Pyar Ki

The serial was launched as a love story between Rishi (Ssharad Malhotra) and Tanu (Kratika Sengar). However, within two months, Tanu was shot by the villain and Kratika was out of the show. Post a 20-year leap, Shivani Tomar entered the show as Tanu, but the chemistry between her and Rishi left viewers wanting. Producer Ekta Kapoor used the oldest trick in her book and brought back Kratika from the dead. Shivani’s Tanu met with an accident and after a plastic sugery, Kratika emerged as the new Tanu.

Nikitin Dheer -Nagarjuna  Ek Yoddha

arely two months after the serial started, Nikitin Dheer who was playing the antagonist Astika quit the show because he “felt cheated”.  The actor was miffed with the producers because he felt they were under-utilising him. In an interview, he said that he was neither the hero or the villain of the show, but reduced to just another character. However,  there was a turnaround after the producer Yash Patnaik came out saying that Nikitin did not know the ways of the TV industry! In short, the two resolved their differences and the actor is back in the show creating havoc in Arjun’s (Anushman Malhotra) life.

Mohammad Nazim - Saath Nibhana Saathiya

He was part of the show for six years as Ahem. He played the supportive husband to Gopi (Devoleena Bhattacharjee) and became the father to grown-up   children, too, post a leap. However, when the serial was poised for another big jump and he had to play a grandfather, the 30-year-old actor decided to quit as he didn’t want to play a grandpa! Ahem was bumped off and a new male lead in the form of Khalid Siddiqui was brought in. However, his pairing with Gopi did not create the same magic. Now, Nazim is back in the show, albeit as Ahem’s lookalike Jaggi. Sources say that eventually, he will turn out to be Ahem, back from the dead, no less, and his romance with Gopi will again be the highpoint.

Ruhana Khanna - Gangaa

She was this little child widow Gangaa who fights for her dignity and  rights in an endearing way. She and the serial became popular, but post a leap she had to make way for the grown-up Gangaa in the form of Aditi Sharma. But the serial did not have the same impact as it had earlier. So, now after another leap, the child actor is back in the show and this time as Gangaa’s daughter Krishna. Sources say that even her character as Krishna is being appreciated by the audiences, and the ratings are encouraging.

Ankit Bathla - Thapki Pyar Ki

He started out as the main lead of the show, in fact he was the face of the show, but had to play the second lead who eventually turned into an antagonist on the show. There was talk of Ankit being unhappy about the track changes, but in an interview he maintained that he knew about it. Anyway, in the serial he ended up creating problems in Thapki (Jigyasa Singh) and Bihaan’s (Manish Goplani) love life. He himself has feelings for  Thapki, which he shows in a forceful manner by kidnapping her. However, she escapes and gets married to Bihaan. In the meantime, Dhruv realises his follies and decides to repent for his ‘sins’ by going abroad, far away from his family, which in effect means his track has ended. But sources say that he will be back soon.
