Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has criticised censor board chief Pahlaj Nihalani for giving an 'A' certificate to Hansal Mehta's real-life based drama Aligarh.

The movie, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao, is based on the real-life incident of professor Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras, who was fired from his job because of his alleged sexual orientation.

Earlier, Mehta expressed his displeasure over the censor board's decision to give an A certificate to the film's trailer.

"We have only a month to promote the film. It's not only an important entertainment medium but important film for our nation. They have put a stop to the promotions by giving the promo an A certificate," Mehta said.

"This promo can now run only with an A-certificate film. I am showing the trailer in protest and absolute anger," he added.
