Female bonding seems to be the current preferred flavour in Bollywood. This year we've already had two major films on female bonding Dedh Ishqiya, Queen and Gulab Gang. Now aTannishtha Chatterjee, Radhika Apte and Surveen Chawla are in Jaisalmer shooting for Leena Bajaj's film on female bonding Parched. The film is about the criss-crossing fate destiny and drama in three women's lives.

Tannishtha feels films about female bonding are a healthy way of enhancing the meager level of gender equality in our cinema."It is good to see films on and about women protagonists being made in our country, as long as we don't make the men look like villains in these films." There is the danger of tilting backwards and creating another kind of gender inequality in film about female bonding. Says Tannishtha, "Sometimes these films end up with under-nourished male characters, or worse all the men are shown either preying on women or treating them with contempt. Films of female empowerment have to guard against this gender imbalance. In Parched the men characters are well etched and reasonably portrayed."

Tannishtha feels a lot of rivalry among female actors happens because of the male co-stars. "I am having a ball shooting with Radha Apte and Surveen Chawla. There is absolute absence of malice among us." She feels the male actors in Bollywood tend to unconsciously aggravate the rivalry between actresses when working together." Tannishtha informs that the atmosphere on international projects is far more democratic. "When I was shooting in the UK for Anna Karenina the film's leading man Jude Law was the epitome of grace and charm. We all felt relaxed and there was no negativity on the sets.Women when working among themselves tend to be far more comfortable .Men create complex gender dynamics."
