Actor Salman Khan’s family has barely been able to put behind the decade-old incident wherein Salman had run over his car on pavement dwellers in 2002. The actor was then booked for rash driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. And now the Khan family has another car accident staring at them.

According to the police, late on Sunday night a 70-year-old woman was crushed to death in Bandra by actor-filmmaker Arbaaz Khan’s car, which was being driven by Sohail Khan’s driver Dhananjaya Pimpale. When contacted PSI Kolhe of the Bandra Police Station, Hill Road, confirmed the incident saying, “The deceased 70-year old lady, Chandra Bala, was a pavement dweller living near St Andrews Church in Bandra. On Sunday night, when the driver driving the Lexus took the turn near the church, it ran over the victim.” According to reports, the driver fled from the scene of accident, but was later arrested, post which he confessed to have been driving the vehicle. Though initial reports placed Sohail in the car, the police confirm that neither Sohail nor Arbaaz were present in the car at the time of the accident. “I was not in the car. Dhananjay was on his way to Galaxy Apartments (the Khan residence in Bandra). Whatever happened was unfortunate,” Sohail reportedly said after the incident.

A source on conditions of anonymity, claims, “The driver has been given bail against payment of Rs 10,000. The hearing is due on July 9 where Arbaaz may also have to be present, as the car is said to be registered in his name. The driver was arrested for negligent driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.”

Another insider reveals, “Primary investigations suggest that it was the driver who was behind the wheels and not Sohail. Preliminary reports suggest that the driver was not under the influnence of alcohol, however his medical reports based on his blood and urine samples are still awaited (at the time of going to press).”

However other eyewitnesses have another tale to tell. They claim that the driver and a constable immediately rushed the victim to Bhabha Hospital. But since no doctor attended her for almost half an hour the victim died due to heavy blood loss and was later announced dead. The police were yet to take Arbaaz and Sohail’s statement  at the time of going to press. Close friends from the industry including David Dhawan came in to support the Khans and meet Salman at their residence yesterday.
