Angelina Jolie has revealed the "personal" reason behind falling out of love with acting. The 39-year-old star, who recently revealed she wants to focus on directing and her humanitarian work in the future, said that she only realised her passions lay elsewhere after losing her mum Marcheline Bertrand to ovarian cancer in 2007, the Mirror reported.

The Unbroken director added that when her mother died, she realised how much her being an actress was linked to her mom's desire to be an actress herself, and especially what satisfaction it brought her when she saw Jolie onscreen.

Jolie added that once her mum was gone, she didn't feel the same attraction for it, adding that what she really likes is to be behind the camera, to put others into the light. The Maleficent star said that being in the spotlight's shine doesn't interest her as she prefers to have her head almost underwater.
