Director Rohan Sippy’s upcoming film Nautanki Saala was earlier titled Dramebaaz. However, he had let go of it because it was registered by another producer. After racking their brains for another title, Rohan and producer Bhushan Kumar came up with Nautanki Saala.

Says Rohan, “Drama is the soul of the film and we wanted Dramebaaz. We even worked on a song with the title Dramebaaz but when we learned that it was already registered, we had to let go of the title.”

It was when they were thinking of a new title, that Bhushan happened to watch Ramesh Sippy’s film Sholay. Says Bhushan, “The famous scene where Dharmendra tries to commit suicide and Amitabh Bachchan says in his signature style Nautanki saala inspired me. I decided to have it as the title for the film. Now, I feel this is more apt for the film than Dramebaaz!”

A comedy, the film stars Ayushmann Khurana and Kunal Roy Kapoor and is slated to release in April.
