"Always a privilege to share screen with Soumitra", says Rupa Ganguly

Sharing screen space with Soumitra Chatterjee after many years, the 'Padma Nadir Majhi' actor Rupa Ganguly says she was always overawed by the thespian during shoots.

"When the director told me I would be pitted opposite a celluloid Akademi award winner writer, his creative companion, and the writer would be none other than Soumitra Chatterjee, I had seriously felt shaky despite having such a vast experiences in acting," Rupa said about her role in Punascho.

"And when you share floor with Soumitrada, you know there will be a pat as you deliver a good shot and very suppressed annoyance if you flunk or he is not happy. It happens intermittently," Rupa said.

Rupa, who plays a Santiniketan-based professor in the literary-minded film, would argue the name 'Punascha' did not have any connection with the famed short story of Tagore. 

"No, it is not the Tagorean 'Punascho'. And the film's title signifies the beginning of the end, in life, in relationships. Don't we love to start everything new after a cycle is complete!," she said. 

The mercurial actor feels the experience of 'Abosheshe', where her full-throated bare voice had fetched the national award for best singer, can't be repeated every time as playback singing is not her forte. 

"There are Tagore songs in my voice. But I mouth the lyrics. Debojyoti Mishra's music has been evocative as usual. But I told him, don't make me sing again," Rupa said.
