Bollywood catfights or the power tussles among actresses become the talk of the town — be it Sri-Madhuri, Karisma-Raveena or Kangana vs the world. But such fights and feuds have also rattled Hollywood. And one such battle between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis has always been a subject of fascination among movie historians and gossip mongers alike.

Ryan Murphy, continuing his successful romance with anthologies, has brought a new series called Feud. The first season will feature the catfight between Crawford and Davis while the second season will focus on the relationship between Princess Diana and Prince Charles.
Here are the five things you need to know about Feud...

55 years on, a feud revisited
The season will chronicle the off-screen combat between Crawford and Davis on the sets of 1962 psycho-thriller Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? This is the only Hollywood project the two Oscar-winning actresses ever worked on, together. At the time, the careers of both the actresses were in a slump. Crawford played smart. Found a story, persuaded Davis to leave Broadway and come back to La La Land, make the movie which would win the competition against the new technology of television.
What happened next is the real- life feud became more intense than the fight between the sisters they played on screen. So big that there is now an eight-part series running on telly about it, 55 years later, in 2017.

Everybody... and then some
The entire Murphy camp is here. Jessica Lange is a chameleon. She plays Joan Crawford effortlessly. Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson will play other divas who will comment on the catfight to give more padding to the subtext. Catherine Zeta-Jones will also be one of those stars.
The three new faces in the camp are Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, and Jackie Hoffman. Sarandon’s Bette Davis is just as fierce and out there like the original one herself. Tucci plays Jack Warner, the Warner Bros head at the time. He spares none when it comes to being the quintessential ruthless studio man. And Jackie Hoffman’s Mamacita will win all the awards for Best Sidekick of the Year this time.

No-holds-barred
The lives of Davis and Crawford have been bared to all. Crawford’s struggle to pay the bills, furniture covered in plastic, shameless product placements and endorsements of Pepsi, the resentment towards Marilyn Monroe — it’s all out there for viewers to see.
In case of Davis, her broken marriage, estranged relationship with her daughter, and struggle to go beyond the two Oscars, is put under the scanner.

As lavish as they come
The show has lavish sets recreating the mansions of those that form part of the plot. The sets of the sets have been created. Of course, it’s a 60s tale, so the costumes are on point with the ladies adorning rows and rows of pearls and diamonds.
But that’s not all. Many of the movie scenes from Crawford and Davis’ movies have been recreated featuring Lange and Sarandon. And the similarities are uncanny.
The best part is the use of music. Nat King Cole’s The Autumn Leaves and Mel Torme’s In the Evening When the Sun Goes Down will take you back in time.

Feud will air in India on Star World Premiere on March 19 at 9 pm.
