With a view to inform people about the problems faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and how homophobes staying in metro cities react on the issue, a web series — All About Section 377 — was released earlier this year in March on YouTube.

After receiving an overwhelming response from viewers, director of the series Amit Khanna will soon start its sequel. The first series — comprising eight episodes — got over 40,000 viewers per episodes.

Talking about why he came up with the web series on LGBT issues, Khanna said: “Citizens look at the LGBT community as a joke and ignore seriousness of the issue. Since the series represent the LGBT community, the target audience of the series are the general public who are homophobic. Many LGBT people are hidden in the closet because people make fun of them. The digital platform has become as a medium for us to express our view point after the Supreme Court’s verdict on section 377.”

While, the first series narrated the story on how the urban population reacts about Section 377, its sequel will be about how the rural population of our country deals with the LGBT community.

“In the next series we will be showcasing the reaction and views of the less-educated people living in rural areas. It will be located in a small village in Punjab. The situations shown in the series are real life experiences faced by people of the LGBT community. We will be showing the transgender aspect. The bisexuals are forced to get married to the opposite gender. Everything will be shown in a light-hearted way without any dramatics. Through the series we want to make people understand that the LGBT community is not just about having sex with the person with similar gender. There is a certain way of addressing the issue which is not done by the general public,” said Amit Khanna.

While many reacted in a positive manner after watching the first season, there were few critics as well. “After looking at the first season, many people messaged, stating that the series motivated them to open up with their parents. Many LGBT people have come forward willingly to act in the next series. The ‘Gay Rights in India’, a community, wrote to us that the series is a step forward for the revolution to get their rights,” said Khanna.
