Finally, the drought at the box office seems to have come to an end. With most big budgeted Bolly flick fizzling out in the first four months, there were hardly any films that worked wonders at the box office. Akshay Kumar’s Gabbar is Back has managed to bring some relief to the cash registers.

The film that released this Friday deals with the idea of corruption and is a remake of a 2002 Tamil film Ramanaa. Starring Akki in the leading role as the leader of a vigilante group, Gabbar has its share of moments. While Akshay performs to the crowd, the supporting cast is a big letdown, except some nice performances by Sunil Grover and Jaideep Ahlawat.

Gabbar is Back has earned in the range of Rs 13 crore on its opening day, which is the highest for any film so far this year. With that, Gabbar has also overtaken the previous record held by Roy. The Arjun Rampal-Jacqueline Fernandes- Ranbir Kapoor starrer had opened to around Rs 10 crore at the box office, beating Akshay’s Baby which had an opening of around Rs 9 crore.

Yet another masala action entertainer, Akshay’s Gabbar is Back will remind you of his Rowdy Rathore days. The actor, who is busy experimenting with his roles, returned to this genre of films after quite some time. While his previous film Baby received huge accolades at the box office, it could not be a blockbuster box office churner.

The film has not received great reviews but has managed to work wonderfully well at the single screens. With no other film this week, the collections are expected to grow over the weekend. But will Gabbar be Akshay’s next 100 crore film? Will it hold on to its ground on the weekdays? That needs to be seen.
