After making his production debut with famed costume designer turned director, Vikram Phadnis’ Hrudayantar, businessman Imtiaz Khatri is now looking at making a full-fledged production debut in Bollywood. What is interesting though is the speculation doing the rounds about the casting coup he has in mind.
Apparently there was talk that he was eager to rope in Shah Rukh for his Hindi production debut with Vikram Phadnis as director, especially after he was recently seen sharing a close rapport with SRK at Karan Johar’s birthday celebrations.
Khatri smiled when asked about this, “It would be great if it happens. That’s because the three of us share an excellent rapport with each other. While I share a great equation with Shah Rukh, Vikram has a great tuning with him too. In fact, Shah Rukh was the one who gave the mahurat clap for Hrudayantar. As for Vikram, I have known him for six years. In fact I was the one who sponsored Vikram’s show in the Lakme Fashion week. Given a great script, it would be great to team together,” he said.
Khatri who has interests in infrastructure and real estate, revealed that he was looking at producing content-driven films. “I have already okayed four very powerful scripts in that direction. My plan is to set up two wings in my production office- one for Marathi cinema and the second one for Hindi films.” he said.
Talking about his decision to produce Hrudayantar, he said, “I had been offered several movies in the last three months, but it was the extraordinary script of Hrudayantar, that prompted me to associate with it. Also recent successes in the past have proved that regional films can give Bollywood a run for their money. I felt that connecting to a Marathi movie would be the ideal start for a production debut,” he said.
The businessman and socialite, added that he has shared a seven-year long association with the celebrity circuit, “I know all of them on a personal level be it filmmakers, actors or writers and there are endless possibilities. Also my friends in the industry are all associated with my sports initiatives. Recently my good friend Tiger Shroff launched the second edition of the super-soccer tournament. I had Manish Malhotra and Sooraj Pancholi for the previous edition. I am passionate about sports. It is also true that sports and entertainment go hand in hand,” he said.
When Vikram Phadnis was asked about Imtiaz Khatri and teaming up with him again, he said, “Imtiaz and me have known each other for a long time. He is an extremely forthcoming person and a visionary. He knows the business well. Though this is his first film, he is focused. It was great working with him but apart from that it is too premature to talk about my next film yet. I still have a long way to go. I have to get that opportunity and they should have the inclination to work with me,” he said.
