Disillusioned by the failure of their recent urban fables Bewakoofiyan and Kill/Dil, Yash Raj Films has decided to quit the city for now and make films that are situated in the North Indian heartland.

Says a source close to the Yash Raj, "Their successful films in recent times have all been located in the Indian heartland, be it Shudh Desi Romance or Gunday. Aditya last directed Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi which was also a small-town romance. That too was accepted in a big way by the audience. Adi genuinely believes that the heart of India beats in the villages and smaller towns. He encourages scripts that are located in the heartland."

Their forthcoming film Dum Laga Ke Haisha directed by debutant Sharat Katariya is set in Haridwar, a very unusual place to shoot a complete Hindi film. Says Ayushmann, "We shot almost all of the film in Haridwar. The detailing that you see in the trailer is a result of our determination to ensure we don't fudge any of the events in the plot."
Says Katariya, "The film is about these simple people with real problems. The trailer promises comedy. But the film is way beyond that. It's a life that I've lived and it's people I've grown up with. It's about a dysfunctional family and how they find peace in the spiritual tranquility of Haridwar where the river bank, temples and bhajans offer immense solace."
